The stations of poetry

About one year ago poetry was all over the place in the town of Pécs, particularly at bus stops, when the Centre for Arts and Literature held ‘PoemStop’ events with the support of the local water authority during the Pécs National Theatre Festival. The campaign simultaneously promoting water and poetry was awarded Summa Artium’s project prize. Múzeumcafé talked to Judit Kamarás, commercial manager of the Pécs Water Authority Co. about the sponsorship.

“It is basically up to the government to finance culture and sports, companies do not want to and are unable to take it over. Yet, they can contribute. We have to keep our eyes open and be aware of which creative projects and ideas require a bit of help. Our company, albeit in a limited way, can provide assistance. The sponsorship strategy focuses on environment protection, health, local quality culture and sports. “During the National Theatre Festival in Pécs we gave water to passers-by from a hydrant in the town centre. It is the same water which comes out of the tap at home. How did people react? They said it wasn’t the same. How di≠erent when cold! The response was positive because people said they had not drunk tap water for years but they would try. “I must admit people also complain about the water in Pécs being hard. We are trying to make them understand that this is related to the mineral content. These components become separated when the water is heated and are deposited as scale in washing machines, on the taps and in bath tubs. However, it also means that the water is healthy.”
