Lordculture in the Liget Budapest project

Lord Cultural Resources is the world’s largest consulting firm specializing in the cultural, heritage and museum sectors. Lord has come a long way since Barry and Gail Dexter Lord founded their company in Toronto 33 years ago. Barry initially became well-known in Canada’s art scene as an editor and reorganiser of the magazine Canadian Art. From the late 1970s, after he and Gail had co-authored a monograph presenting, for the first time, a historical overview of Canadian painting, Barry worked in the public sector. As part of the National Museums of Canada management team, he supervised the staging of new exhibitions, as well as renovations and extensions. He realized that goodwill, a remarkable collection, or employees and a public open to innovation, moreover generous state subsidies were all insufficient for successful museum development, since a survey of demands and planning were often missing. With his ideas falling on deaf ears, Barry resigned and in 1981 set up a new company. Two years later he and Gail co-authored the manual Planning Our Museums. This has been followed by several other works and Lord has developed into a global company offering a wide range of services such as business plan preparation, feasibility studies, cultural and heritage strategic planning, consultation with architects, exhibition planning and project management. Lordculture has already participated in Budapest projects, including the programme planning of the Palace of Arts, and the Budapest History Museum has also been a client. The present commission is undoubtedly their most comprehensive in Hungary – helping to develop the programme and cooperating with the project office in the international architectural competition relating to the two largest building complexes planned for the City Park.
