Historian and museologist Tibor Rémiás was appointed director of the Heves County Museum Organisation as of 1 June 2012. Previously he was head of department at the Herman Ottó Museum in Miskolc. In February this year, when the tender was published for managing the Heves County Museum Organisation, Rémiás was one of six to submit an application. The jury deemed his to be the most inventive and also the best in terms of aptitude for the job. What did the winning application promise? “To establish a directorate with a marketing approach which continues organisational changes,” says the new director. “The fact that I have twenty-five years of professional experience must also have been in my favour. I have taken over a well-functioning, visitor friendly and open museum in Eger. I want to continue with this tradition while at the same time opening the doors to visitors even wider.” In his new post Tibor Rémiás has to direct three institutions: the Dobó István Castle Museum in Eger, the Mátra Museum in Gyöngyös and the Heves Local History Collection. Of these three the number of visitors in the Castle Museum is very high, exceeding 350,000 annually. Rémiás left the far quieter Hermann Ottó Museum in eastern Hungary for this post. He graduated as a historian and museologist and his main research area has included the history of lifestyle, society and economy in the 18th century. He is the author of scholarly works about this period based on his research. The Dobó István Castle Museum in Eger is known as the flagship of the county museum network. It has been operating well and has won the Most Visited Museum of the Year award several times. Since Géza Gárdonyi’s historical novel The Stars of Eger is included in the national curriculum.
