Original – symbolic accumulation of capital

Zoltán Miklós, director of the Haáz Rezső Museum in Odorheiu Secuiesc

MúzeumCafé 26.

Ethnographer Zoltán Miklós has been in charge of the Haáz Rezső Museum in Romania, for only a year but this short period of 12 months has been enough for the role of this institution with its small staff yet valuable collection to witness some radical changes. For example, education events have been launched and hundreds of child-ren and their teachers have become acquainted with the museum. Both the Sekler National Seal and tropical butterflies were exhibited in 2011 with the result that the number of visitors in the first six months reached the level the museum previously had in a whole year. The museum, which incorporates the Acidulous Water Museum in Seiche, the Gallery of Our Times in Odorheiu Secuiesc, the Áron Tamási Memorial House in Lupeni and the Balázs Orbán Memorial Room in Polonita, has taken a new path with its most recent step whereby the ethnographic display The Flowers of Sekler Land is to be dismantled and replaced by an exhibition about Leonardo da Vinci. “The staff in the museum all strive to have their research published. The museum itself is trying to increase the number of its publications and with regard to the future it is essential for us to issue an annual. Our aim for 2012 is to implement our large project at a high standard without depleting our financial and human resources too much. In addition, the museum will also host a substantial art exhibition as well as two temporary exhibitions on historical subjects. I personally see a great potential in archaeology and it is our duty to expand this field since excavations are promising gre results. Hence we are not only preparing for a future archaeological exhibition but aiming to organise the Béla Posta conference on archaeology next November.”
