MúzeumCafé 27.

Training museum education advisors at the Faculty of Education and Psychology of Eötvös Loránd University began with optional courses in 1989 and was followed by modules of 60 and 120 hours. In line with a measure of the Minister of Education, the course of further training in the field of museum education for a second degree could begin at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) Teacher Training College in the academic year of 1999-2000. After the college closed down, training has continued at ELTE’s Faculty of Education and Psychology since 2003. The aims and principal content of the museum education advisor training are:

– analysing museum education’s interdisciplinary system;

– developing the terminology of museum education;

– exploring the increasingly growing opportunities for connections and co-operation in museum education;

– an overview of the various museums’ scientific, historical and aesthetic concepts;

– an overview and continuous study of significant foreign and Hungarian museum education developments;

– gaining experience about the role of those working in museum education with the help of museum educators, artist teachers and other professionals;

– delivering knowledge in relation to fine arts, history, natural sciences, ethnography and education, whereby graduates will be able to give lessons, run special courses and optional sessions in museums, as well as pursue general educational activities;

– the acquisition by teachers with traditional teaching diplomas specialised in museum education, or professionals working in museum education, of innovative skills which enable them, having the thorough, broad theoretical and practical expertise, to work in a museum environment.
